Bronwyn’s work investigates the idea of truth and deceit as portrayed in the world at large in our view of what is beautiful and what is not, in particular the unrealistic demand on women and men to be unflawed, to conceal our real selves.
She seeks out those images of herself and others, men and women, in which they are not posed and beautiful but rather engaged in activity. It is the self-reveal in these moments that she seeks to capture, these so called “ugly” images are discarded while Bronwyn embraces them. The use of traditional painting and realistic drawing techniques enhance this impression of reality and truth.
The two bodies of work “Unconcealed” and “Reality Escapes Her” create a balance, the ugly and the beautiful that make up the world, the truth and the deceit.
